This one of a kind pottery piece was inspired by coquiba rocks with fossil impressions. This piece has been handformed from a white stoneware clay using a traditional pinchpot method combined with slabs. I find this long slow process to be meditative and relaxing. Each of my pinchpots is unique. This one has impressions of flowers from my handcarved clay stamps all over it reminiscent of fosdil rocks on the coast. This piece has been fired in the ancient raku method. This lends itself to beautiful and often unpredictable glaze results. The quick firing process requires pulling the pieces out while they are still glowing red hot and putting them in a container of combustible materials that instantly ignite into flames. You then cover that to control the glaze reaction to the flames and carbon. Raku pieces absorb the dark carbon from the smoke and have a distinctive black bottom or black anywhere the clay didn't have glaze. They are not foodsafe and are meant to be decorative. Some potters will put a clear water sealer inside vases so they can hold water for flowers. This piece does not have a watersealant applied and will not hold a liquid. It is meant to be purely esthetically beautiful and decorative.
